On Monday afternoon, Police Observer Ajaypal Sharma issues a video warning to Trinamool goons. In this video—recorded while standing in front of the Trinamool candidate’s residence in Falta—he is seen “threatening” the party’s goons. Citing this video, the Trinamool Congress has raised questions regarding the conduct of the Police Observer for Diamond Harbour and has leveled various allegations against him.

Ajaypal Sharma warning tmc goons
The Election Commission has appointed Ajaypal Sharma, a well-known “Singham” from Uttar Pradesh, as a Police Observer for this state’s second voting phase. The Diamond Harbour Police District has designated Ajaypal Sharma as its Police Observer. Ajaypal Sharma, the “Singham” of Uttar Pradesh, roared as soon as he took command. He gave a severe warning to Trinamool’s goons while standing in front of Jahangir Khan, the Trinamool candidate for Falta. Additionally, he gave the candidate himself a “word of caution.” On Monday, a video showing this occurrence appeared (albeit News18.com has not independently confirmed the footage’s validity). The Trinamool Congress began a counterattack on the senior Uttar Pradesh police official as soon as the video became public. Ajaypal has been attacked by the state’s ruling party, which has accused him of “corruption” and “deception.”
The video of Ajay Pal appeared on Monday afternoon. Ajay Pal Sharma, accompanied by members of the central forces, stood in front of the Trinamool candidate’s Falta home and gave the local Trinamool “goons” a severe warning. “To everyone present in the area—listen carefully: if anyone engages in any mischief, they will be given the appropriate ‘treatment,'” he is heard stating in the video. We shall take the most appropriate action if we learn from any source that someone is trying to cause trouble or harass someone.”

The Uttar Pradesh police officer, Ajaypal Sharma, didn’t stop there; he also made comments about the relatives of Trinamool candidate Jahangir. “Jahangir’s family members are also standing right here,” said Ajaypal Sharma. Please give him a thorough understanding of the circumstances. There are numerous reports that his associates are threatening him. I will conduct a full investigation if this persists. And once I do, there won’t be any space left for tears or confession.
Trinamool’s Allegations Against Ajaypal Sharma
The Trinamool Congress made counter-allegations against Ajay Pal Sharma as soon as the video of his warning appeared. According to the Trinamool, Ajay Pal, popularly known as “Singham,” is a “encounter specialist” from Uttar Pradesh. However, the party claims that the concerned police officer has engaged in evidence destruction, criminal conspiracy, and breach of trust.

“Ajaypal Sharma is intimidating and threatening the innocent residents of Diamond Harbour, and conducting raids on people’s homes under cover of darkness,” the Trinamool Congress said during a press conference. The Trinamool also claims that he enters residences, acts indecently with women, and physically abuses them under the guise of performing searches at night. Ajaypal Sharma is a vibrant character. He was the focus of two investigations in March 2020: one related to corruption and the other to a breach of trust, specifically earning a woman’s trust only to deceive and cheat her. A woman accused Ajay Pal Sharma of deceiving her by marrying her while hiding his ties with other women, according to the state’s ruling party. The woman further claimed that an attempt was made to implicate her in a phony case after she filed a complaint with high police officers.
The Trinamool called a press conference and gave Ajay Pal a severe warning: You are gravely mistaken if you think that you can just go back to your home state after May 4th and that your BJP masters there will protect you. We’re keeping an eye on you. Running away won’t get you out of justice. An FIR will be filed against you regardless of whatever state you flee to or which BJP leader is watching over you. In your name, a chargesheet will be sent. You will be hauled before this state’s courts by the scruff of your neck. You’ll have to deal with the law. You will face the harshest legal action imaginable.
The Commission’s ‘Observer Handbook’, published in August 2024.
The Commission’s ‘Observer Handbook,’ published in August 2024: It claims that General and Police Observers have substantial “seniority” and a wealth of administrative expertise. Consequently, the Commission expects them to be well-positioned to assist in conducting free and fair elections. They will monitor the electoral process at the local level to make sure it is run effectively and efficiently. “No voter shall be left behind” is the guiding concept that the observers must follow. They are required to act as the Commission’s “eyes and ears” during the election period rather than as its spokespersons. Serving as a point of contact for voters, political parties, and candidates, they will provide the Commission with information at the local level. They also have to make sure that all parties involved follow election-related laws, rules, procedures, instructions, and guidelines in an unbiased and stringent manner.

The manual goes on to say that any information or observations made by observers are completely private. The Commission alone is authorized to use this material; neither the media nor any other entity may use it. As a result, observers are not allowed to have any conversations with the media even after the voting is over. Additionally, they are not allowed to respond to any inquiries from the media.
