Shubman’s India defeated Sri Lanka in the first Test by 165 runs. India won the match on Wednesday—the fifth day of the Test—by taking the remaining six wickets of Sri Lanka’s second innings. Shubman Gill clearly stated that their goal is to reach the World Test Championship final. A tough battle lies ahead for India in their quest to reach the World Test Championship final.
Shubman’s clear message
In the first Test at Galle, Shubman’s India defeated Sri Lanka, breaking the previous record. On Wednesday, the fifth day, they triumphed by 165 runs. Shubman Gill made it apparent after the game that their objective is to make it to the World Test Championship final. The performances of Devdutt Padikkal and Manav Suthar delighted the Indian skipper.

As soon as the India vs. Sri Lanka Test match ended, it started to rain heavily. As a result, the award presentation had to be held indoors. “Getting to the World Test Championship final is the ultimate goal,” Shubman said there. Test victories are difficult to achieve, so this victory is quite gratifying. Because to the weather, I was truly concerned about whether the game would be played, but the squad pulled off an incredible comeback.
Over the course of the two innings, Sutar took ten wickets in all. During the second innings, he took four wickets in a few deliveries, securing the victory for India. “He is bowling exceptionally well,” Shubman said in reference to him. He is a very gifted bowler. He will play for India for a very long period, in my opinion.

Padikkal’s performance also impressed Shubman. “It is amazing to watch him play,” he remarked. It is difficult to score a century. Even after he reached the hundred, he continued to score a lot of runs. Throughout the game, he put the squad in a solid position and showed a battling attitude. The way he controlled the game in the second innings was fantastic to watch.
India did well in the first innings, but they were knocked out for less than 200 runs in the second. Shubman is not very worried about this, though. “We wanted to score 400 runs, but scoring on this pitch wasn’t easy,” he stated. Our goal was to play with more aggression. We lost wickets while attempting to play aggressively since we were unsure of how many overs would be played on days four and five.”
India’s World Test Championship points table
On the World Test Championship points table, India is still ranked sixth. But their percentage of points has increased from 48.15 to 53.33. Out of ten games, they have won five, lost four, and drawn one.

South Africa, in second place, with a points percentage of 75 after winning three of their last four games. Brilliant performances by Manav and Padikkal; poor form of Shubman and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Taking advantage of the chance, this left-arm spinner fulfilled the confidence shown in him by taking ten wickets in two innings. Rangana Herath, a left-arm spinner from Sri Lanka, used to dominate Galle; on Monday, another left-arm spinner took over. On the fifth day, Sri Lanka put up a strong fight, but Manav destroyed them by getting four wickets in two overs.
India will be worried about Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance even if they won the Test. Yashasvi scored 32 and 0 runs in the two innings, while Shubman scored 16 in the first and 8 in the second. Devdutt Padikkal’s innings was crucial in achieving a high total, as the top order’s poor form prevented them from making a significant contribution. In the second innings, India’s batting performance was equally poor.Brilliant performances by Padikkal
