Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been rewarded for his strong performance in the IPL; he has earned a call-up to the senior Indian squad for the very first time. The left-handed batter is set to travel to Sri Lanka to play in a tri-nation ODI series as part of the India ‘A’ team.
They could lose their captaincy due to their teams’ poor performance in the ongoing IPL season. This list includes Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane, Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant, and Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel. All three of these captains have seen their teams fail to perform well in two consecutive IPL seasons.
In a report, the news agency PTI stated: “The axe hangs over three captains. Their teams have performed very poorly. Consequently, they could lose their captaincy as soon as this season’s IPL concludes. That is the word coming from the respective franchises. Axar Patel’s Delhi side stands no chance of qualifying for the playoffs. The situation is much the same for Ajinkya Rahane’s KKR. Rishabh Pant’s Lucknow team has already become the first side to be eliminated from the playoff race. They have served as captains for two seasons, failing on both occasions; as a result, the time has now come for them to make their exit.”

Rahane faltered due to a lack of confidence
Initially, KKR did not consider appointing Rahane as captain. The KKR team management released Shreyas Iyer—the captain who had led KKR to the championship in 2024. They acquired Rahane at the last minute during the auction and subsequently appointed him as captain. They are now paying the price for this decision; watching Rahane on the field, it is clearly evident that he lacks confidence.

According to the study, “KKR had no other viable options when they decided to appoint Rahane as captain.” Abhishek Nayar, a close friend of Rahane’s, was a great head coach. However, Rahane and Abhishek’s collaboration has not worked out. Rahane’s dismissal is therefore only a question of time. Rahane’s future with the team is gloomy, according to a chat between CEO Venky Mysore and team owner Shah Rukh Khan that took place during the KKR-Punjab game at Eden Gardens after a run of six straight losses. But the lack of a backup skipper is KKR’s main problem. With an eye on the future, KKR may decide to make vice captain Rinku Singh the team’s permanent captain.
Axar Patel’s Lack of Planning
Lack of preparation is Axar’s main problem. Delhi lost even from favorable positions, which is exactly why they were unable to win close games. David Miller scored the two runs required off the final two deliveries against the Gujarat Titans. Karun Nair’s two missed catches against the Punjab Kings cost Delhi the game. Notably, Axar himself seemed reluctant to bowl in a few of games; how can the team win if the captain is scared?
According to the newspaper, “Axar has bowled just 36 overs across 12 matches and claimed 10 wickets during the current IPL season.” The rest of the team has been affected by the captain’s anxiety. Axar’s team selection has also gone wrong. “Abishek Porel was not given a single match throughout the entire season,” the report states. Madhav Tiwari did not have any possibilities either. Rather, players like Karun Nair and Sahil Porel were given more opportunities.
Every two years, the JSW and GMR organizations take turns leading the franchise in Delhi. Axar was named captain by the GMR group. The next time, Parth Jindal’s JSW group will be in charge. Axar’s exit is therefore almost inevitable. Lokesh Rahul, a cricket player of the team’s level, might be given the captaincy the next season.
Pant fails to pay the price
In the IPL, Pant was the most costly cricket player. He was purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants at ₹27 crore. He was unable to defend his pricing, though. Pant constantly gave out a nasty vibe with his body language. In 11 IPL games, he amassed 251 runs. His bat has failed to score runs this season, just like it did last year. As a result, Lucknow has missed out on the playoffs for the second time in a row.
“In Pant’s case, it is evident that captaincy does not come naturally to him,” according to a report by the news agency PTI. He has now failed in Lucknow after failing in Delhi. He has batted at several spots in the order in an effort to restore his form, but he has not been able to score runs. Even if Pant survived the axe the past time, he won’t be able to do so this time because his team doesn’t allow for failure. Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran are three players on the Lucknow team who have led their respective national teams. Any one of them might be given the leadership position.

The 15-year-old prodigy Vaibhav has secured a place in the India “A” team. Tilak Varma will captain India at a tri-national One Day International (ODI) series in Sri Lanka in June. Afghanistan will play in this series alongside Sri Lanka and India. Vaibhav has been guaranteed a spot on the 15-person team. This young man from Bihar may be given the chance to play T20 cricket for the Indian national team if he does well for the India ‘A’ team, which might break Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
The tri-nation series is scheduled to start as soon as the IPL concludes. The show will start on June 9 and end on June 21.
Vaibhav has amassed 440 runs in 11 IPL games this season. His incredible strike rate of 236.55, which is the highest in the competition, has allowed him to score these runs. Vaibhav has a batting average of forty. With a maximum solo score of 103, this left-handed opener has amassed one century and two half-centuries. At the moment, Vaibhav is ranked seventh on the Orange Cap leaderboard.
