Suvendu keeps a cool head
While out campaigning in Nandigram on Wednesday, Suvendu Adhikari, the outgoing MLA and BJP candidate, encountered demonstrations and taunts from the Trinamool Congress. The ruling party’s leaders, activists, and fans yelled “Thief! Thief!” at him once more. But this time, Suvendu remained composed.
On Wednesday, Suvendu and his entourage were on their way to Dinabandhupur in Nandigram. Upon spotting him on the road, a group of people raised slogans of “Joy Bangla” and “Chor-Chor” (Thief! Thief!). In retaliation, several of Suvendu’s companions—identifying the group as Trinamool supporters—chanted “Jai Shri Ram.”
“There is no point in doing all this,” he said to the demonstrators as he got out of his car. This time, brothers, it won’t work. I won’t allow you to repeat what you did in 2021. I have the right to contact everyone as a candidate.”
At that point, a few ladies organized a demonstration against Suvendu. Suvendu, the BJP candidate, responded coolly, saying, “Tell the person who does such things; do not tell me.” “No, the women here haven’t said anything amiss,” Suvendu remarked when his aides tried to step in. My MLA office has provided assistance to everyone. All of this is pointless.
